NEW “MUST HAVE” FOR FILM PRODUCTION: BIBLICAL SCHOLAR
TMC Entertainment Enlists Expertise of Old Testament Specialist
for Upcoming Bible Journeys Series
 
 LOS ANGELES, OCT 21, 2005—Entertainment enterprises seeking to meet mainstream America’s seemingly unquenchable thirst for faith-friendly productions are integrating a critical new action item into their production calendar: Check for biblical accuracy.  For projects that rely on acceptance by masses of the faithful, ignoring this step is a recipe for failure.
 
For TMC Entertainment’s Bible Journeys series, the research phase is a cornerstone in the foundation of the project and a reflection of TMC’s mission to produce faith- and family-friendly programming.  In demonstration of this commitment, Drew Levin, TMC’s Chairman and CEO, announced both the commencement of the investigative process for the series and the name of the expert tapped for the job: Professor Daniel L. Smith-Christopher, a Professor of Old Testament Studies and Director of Peace Studies at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. 
 
“We recognize the enormous responsibility that comes with producing any Bible-based project and so does Professor Smith-Christopher.  In him we have found a scholar with impeccable credentials and a solid background in both biblical and cultural studies,” said Levin.  “I’m pleased to announce that Professor Smith-Christopher will be working alongside us ensure that all future Bible Journeys projects accurately reflect what is contained within the pages of the Bible.”
 
Smith-Christopher has authored dozens of scholarly articles, nine major books, including An Introduction to the Old Testament, and was a contributing writer for both the Oxford Bible Commentary and the New Interpreter’s Commentary. 
 
The first of TMC’s Bible Journeys initiatives, Walking the Bible, is currently in final post-production.  This three-hour miniseries, based on Bruce Feiler’s New York Times best-selling book of the same title, is scheduled to be broadcast on the PBS Network in the first quarter of 2006.
